This page is dedicated to our on-line friends....and in particular to three exceptionally special people, Elaine, Lori and Pam, who have shown their love, strength, support, and friendship ..... allowing us glimpses of their souls through their sense of fun, compassion and generousity of spirit.......our White Magnolias..... the following are some poems and stories exchanged over the time we have known each other, but first of all we would like to present the perenial composition The White Magnolia Tree, as a dedication to them, and all our on-line friends............

The White Magnolia Tree

The year when I was twenty-one
(John that year was twenty-three)
That was the year, that was the spring,
We planted the white magnolia tree.

“This tree,” said John, “shall grow with us,
and every year it will bloom anew.
This is our life. This is our love.”
And the white magnolia grew and grew…

. Oh, youth’s a thing of fire and ice
And currents that run
Hot and white,
And its world is as bright
as the sun…

I was twenty-one….
And I wore a plume in my hat, and
we went to the movies and wept over
“Stella Dallas,” and John sang
“Moonlight and Roses” (a little off-
key, but very nicely, really), and we
hurried through our crowded days
with beautiful plans, boundless
ambitions and golden decisions.

There is so much the young heart
clamors for; this it must have, and
that it cannot live without, and
it must be all or nothing, for
aren’t we the masters of creation?

Oh, valiant and untamed were we,
When we planted the white magnolia tree!

And the white magnolia grew and grew,
Holding our love within its core,
And every year it bloomed anew,
and we were twenty-one no more.

No more untamed, no more so free,
Nor so young, nor so wild and
aflame were we.

Dearer to us then grew other things:
easy sleep, books, a day’s quiet
holiday, good talk beside a fire,
the beauty of old faces….

We have known many things since
then: the death of a child and the
bitter lesson that a heart which
breaks must mend itself again
(that it can and must be done), and
what loyalty can mean, and how
real a word like courage can be-
come, and that solitude can be
rich and gratifying and quite
different from loneliness….

There is so little the serious heart
requires: friends, faith, a window
open to to the world, pride in work
well done, and strength to live in
a world at war and still maintain
the heart’s own private peace….

Dear Heaven, I give thanks to thee
for the things I did not know before,
for the wisdom of maturity,
for bread, and a roof, and for
one thing more…

Thanks because I still can see
the bloom on the white magnolia tree!

Best Friends

At first l found a good
Friend in you.
Then along came another,
Now l have two.

There isn't a single
Day that goes by,
We don't share laughter
And many times cry.

When l need a friend,
One is always there.
Sometimes, the only ones
That seem to care.

We often joke around
And say that we,
Are like the Musketeers!
Yes, that's us three!!!

Although we live
Many miles apart,
You two always stay
Deep within my heart.

My Friend And Confidant

You are half the world away,
And my today is your tomorrow.
I have never seen your face,
Nor heard words from your lips.
I do not know your sounds of laughter,
Or the softness of your sigh.
I have not a clue as to who you are,
Or the customs for which you live.
I do know that you are kind and sweet,
You are a thoughtful and caring soul.
You think of others before yourself,
All others, young and old.
These things I know about you,
Even though we have never met.
I have learned this by coming home
Each day and finding you here.
You are not here in body and soul,
But as a lighted rectangle.
You come to me every day as
A message on my screen,
A message that I can rely on
To cheer me up and make my day.
Through a keyboard we share
Our ups and downs.
I have opened my inner self to you,
And you have to me as well.
We have traded secrets and laughs,
As well as sorrows and pain.
I have never met you,
but feel as if I have known you most of my life.
To most this might sound silly,
But I assure them, it is not.
Even though we have never met,
I feel a bond between us.
A bond that should have taken years to build,
Yet was built in a month or two.
A bond that lifelong friends should have,
Although most never do.
A bond that I am glad to share with you
My Friend And Confidant.
May your dreams come true
Your prayers be answered.

The Oak Tree

A mighty wind
Blew night and day
It stole the oak tree's leaves away

Then snapped its boughs
And pulled its bark
Until the oak was tired and stark

But still the oak tree held its ground
While other trees fell all around
The weary wind gave up and spoke
How can you still be standing Oak

The oak tree said, I know that you
Can break each branch of mine in two
Carry every leaf away
Shake my limbs, and make me sway

But I have roots stretched in the earth
Growing stronger since my birth
You'll never touch them, for you see
They are the deepest part of me

Until today, I wasn't sure
Of just how much I could endure
But now I've found, with thanks to you
I'm stronger than I ever knew.

There are times, my friend
When I feel the need to talk
To converse ...
Not with another, but my heart
There are times when I want to listen
Not to the wind or the crowds about me
But to my soul
There are times, my friend
When I want to take a walk along the beach
A solitary walk ... a walk with myself
I talk, and my heart listens
To my heart, I tell my most private thoughts
My fondest memories
My deepest emotions
To my heart, I bare my very core
And, then, I listened to the voice
That I know is my very soul
And, with the voice
Came the calm serene of the sea in the summer
The soft gentle touch of rain
The warm comfort of sun, in winter
The kind re-assurance of spring
And, when I take my walk
With every gentle wave lapping at my feet
The soft sand beneath my feet
But, my walk is no longer solitary
For I walk with me
I walk with myself
And, as the sun sets
Painting my world
Our world with a golden hew
I turn to myself
And, I see you!

Through My Window
Outside my frosted window pane,
I've watched the snowfall, and the rain.
I've seen the seasons come and go.
And watched the breezes softly blow.
I've seen God's creatures scurrying by,
And watched the eagles soar on high.
I've heard the raindrops kiss the leaves,
And felt God's whisper in the breeze.

I see God's hand as seasons pass,
And watch in awe from behind the glass.
From autumn's brilliant red and gold,
To winter nights of freezing cold.
When snow white flakes cover the ground,
No brighter diamonds can be found.
The trees and bushes seem to wear,
Crystal white jewels upon their hair.

And all the land is clean and white,
Now in God's world, all seems so right.
Then winter soon gives way to spring,
With new found life, and birds that sing.
Then through the earth, the flowers come,
To point their leaves up to the sun.
They grow, and bud, and soon will bear,
Fragrant flowers everywhere.

Then through my open window sill,
The flower's fragrance comes at will.
The smell of springtime fills the air.
The touch of God, beyond compare.
How great our Lord, my eyes can see,
Each Blessing that He gives to me.
For summertime is now at hand,
Beside my windowsill, I stand.

I stand and look out through the glass,
At all the changes that have past.
From winter's chilly, freezing days,
To springtime flowers, and summer's haze.
From autumn's colors, bold and bright,
To quiet days and peaceful nights.
The touch of God is everywhere,
As through my windowpane, I stare.

is a word
that is used to describe
something one-of-a-kind
like a hug
or a sunset
or a person who spreads love
with a smile or kind gesture.

describes people
who act from the heart
and keep in mind the hearts of others.

applies to something
that is admired and precious
which can never be replaced.

is the word
that best describes

Count your gardens by the flowers,
Never by the leaves that fall;
Count your days by golden hours,
Don't remember clouds at all.
Count the nights by stars,
...not shadows,
Count your life by smiles,
...not by tears, and
Count your age by friends
...and not by years.

A Heart Full Of Wishes

I have so many wishes
That I've stored up in my heart
Today I sit here thinking-
I'm not sure where to start.

I wish to send you Smiles
So that all throughout your day
You'll think of only happy things
And life will go your way.

Next, I wish to send you Hugs
The warm and snuggly kind
You'll feel them with you constantly
More sincere hugs you couldn't find.

Of course, I wish you lots of Love
Forever and especially for you
A heart filled with love so sweet
Never-ending and oh so true.

Sunshine, Laughter and all Happy things
I wish for you today
And all God's Blessings be with you
Forever and in so many ways.

Just like a rose,
so precious and rare,
is the forever friendship
the circle of us share.

Planted with kindness,
it's warmed by the sun
of caring and sharing,
laughter and fun.

It's grounded in trust
and nurtured by love,
with a sprinkling of grace
from God up above.

Tears of sadness and joy,
like dew, renew this friendship
I share with you.
And in the heart's garden,
we find the room to be ourselves,
to grow and bloom.

A blessing of beauty unsurpassed,
our friendship's a flower
that will always last.

I Have A Little Garden
No flowers will you find;
Instead you'll see the friendships
That I have made online.

They grow from something other
Than normal flowers do.
They thrive on love and support
And understanding too.

This special little garden;
No matter rain or shine,
Is always in bloom;
This special place of mine.

It's filled with fun and laughter;
Where happiness abounds.
This lovely garden echoes
Many joyful sounds.

If someone should hurt you
And say a thing unkind
Remember that I write you
And keep these thoughts in mind
For everyone that makes you cry
There are three who make you smile
And a smile will last a long
Long time, but a tear
Just a little while

Don't let someone who hates the world
Cause you to hate it too
Behind the clouds is a golden sun
And a sky that's full of blue

If someone said a thing that's cruel
Don't let it get to you
Your achievements are greatly numbered
And your faults are very few

So if a certain person
Should act a certain way
Think of those who love you
And don't let it spoil your day
~Author Unknown~

I have a little recipe
that isn't hard to make,
But you must always start
as soon as you awake.

Take a great big mixing bowl
and fill it with a smile;
Mix half a cup of sunshine
with good deeds to last a while.

Add a pinch of work and play,
a dash of thoughtfulness & care;
But don't bake it in the oven,
just spread it around everywhere.

Peace is accepting the differences of others.
Peace is understanding another's sorrow.
Peace is sharing in another's trials.
Peace is lending a hand to a stranger in need
without being asked.
Peace is pressing forward
with a hopeful heart
in times of difficulty.

I consider you my friend
although we've never met.
You've managed to touch my heart
through this thing called 'The Net'.
You've been there for me
when I've needed someone.
How can I ever thank you
for all that you've done?
When I've needed a shoulder
a prayer, a hug or an ear.
You have been there for me
like we've been friends for years.

I don't quite understand it
us meeting as cyber-friends.
But I feel God had a hand in it
in order for me to mend.
I prefer not to use it
this term 'cyber-friend'.
I'll leave off the 'cyber'
and just call you friend.

I feel I must thank you
for showering me with love.
My angel right here on earth
Sent from Heaven above.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.
"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.
"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow,
regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority,
lies, false pride, superiority, and ego
. The other is good - he is joy,
peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness,
benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute
and then asked his grandfather,
"Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied,
"The one you feed."
